Wood destroying insects can wreak havoc on homes and buildings in Florida, causing extensive structural damage that is often difficult and expensive to repair. That’s why it’s important to stop infestations of these insects in their tracks and identify damage they have caused. Whether you need a WDI inspection for a property you are looking to purchase or for one you already own, you can rely on our team at Florida Termite Inspections, LLC to provide it.
“Wood destroying insect” is a somewhat broad term. There are multiple kinds of insects in Florida that can damage wood, but many people don’t know what all of them are. Here are the insects a WDI inspection covers:
- Termites – Termites are the most well-known wood destroying insects, and they are common enough that some people choose to have an inspection performed specifically to identify the presence of termites. They eat wood and paper, and they are shaped like long ovals instead of having segmented bodies.
- Carpenter Ants – Carpenter ants are larger than regular household ants. They won’t eat away at your home like termites do, but they still cause damage by building their colonies in damp or rotting wood on your property.
- Carpenter Bees – Like carpenter ants, carpenter bees don’t eat wood. They cause destruction by drilling holes and building nests inside decks, porches, fascia, and other wooden structures.
- Woodboring Beetles – Wood boring beetles don’t eat wood as adults. However, they lay their eggs inside the wood, and then the larvae can eat away at the wood.
If any of these wood destroying insects are damaging your home or building, we can find out for you by providing a WDI inspection.
